How does a Vādma session work?

A Vādma session is a full ritual of about 2 hours, given in person by a Certified Vādma Practitioner. A full treatment has 5 stages and combines massage and sacred touch, breath, energy work, light technology, scent and integration, with the integration phase at the end. Vādma works with the body's energetic points, uses no needles and is not meant to be painful. Breath is part of the session through Pranayama, the yogic science of the breath, but Vādma is not Pranayama and it is not breathwork. You do not need intense breathing, visualization or any substance, because the session works with your own nervous system. Physical touch is essential, which is why a session is never given online. You don't need a special diet. Just don't come right after a heavy meal, and avoid caffeine or other stimulants beforehand. Every session is a different experience. You can receive sessions on consecutive days, but plan no more than one full treatment per day, because it can be intense for some people. Before your session, tell your practitioner about any medication you take. Vādma is not suitable if you have a heart condition or take heart medication.

Questions about Vādma

What is a Vādma session like?

A Vādma session is an in-person experience of about 2 hours that is different every time, and what you notice depends on you and on that day. Many people describe deep relaxation and relief, and many call it one of the most profound experiences of their life. A session often brings up whatever you have held back the longest, because expression is the opposite of suppression. Someone who has held back tears for years will often cry. Some people begin speaking in their native language without noticing, even when the practitioner does not speak it, and have no memory of it afterwards. Practitioners say the first sessions often bring a stronger physical release of stored tension, which tends to ease over time. With more sessions, some people describe states of bliss and ecstasy, though this is different for everyone. People with experience in yoga, breathwork or plant medicine often go deeper faster, but you do not need any prior experience. It is best to come without expectations. You can read first-hand accounts from clients and practitioners in the reviews collected on this site.

Is Vādma safe?

Vādma is described as non-invasive, and the Vādma Institute says it is safe when it is given by a practitioner it has certified. Certified Vādma Practitioners are trained in anatomy, first aid and contraindications. No needles are used, a session is not meant to be painful, and no substance of any kind is taken. Dr. Jen Draper, a former Australian GP with nearly 30 years of medical experience, completed the Vādma Practitioner training and calls it "safe, quick and natural" in her video interview. Ma Ananda Sarita, PhD, a teacher of tantra, meditation and holistic healing, adds that while a session is quick and easy, it takes very profound training to give one. That is why you should only receive Vādma from a certified practitioner. You can check a practitioner you find on Instagram with the Vādma Practitioner Verification extension for Chrome. Vādma is not suitable if you have a heart condition or take heart medication. If you take any other medication, discuss it with your practitioner before your session. Vādma is not medical or mental-health care, so check with a qualified health professional about any medical condition.

Do I need more than one Vādma session?

Usually one Vādma session is enough to have the experience, and more sessions are not required to feel an effect. Many people still choose to have several, and further sessions can be very beneficial. What practitioners often observe is that in the first sessions the physical release of stored tension and trauma from the body is stronger, and that it decreases over time. The more sessions people have, the more often they reach the states clients report, such as bliss and ecstasy. This is different for everyone. People who have already done a lot of inner work, such as spiritual work, bodywork or consciousness work, often go deeper faster, but you can reach these states without any prior work too. Every session is different, and you tend to receive what you need most from it. Whatever you have held back the longest can come up to be seen and released. You can receive sessions on consecutive days, but no more than one full treatment per day, because it can be intense for some people. Treat all of this as observations, not rules.

Are the results of a Vādma session permanent?

Not always: some changes from a Vādma session may stay, while others may need further work. Most people keep a profound memory of the experience. Some changes may need further sessions, or other modalities when they fall outside what Vādma covers. Individual results vary, and every session is a different experience. Many people choose a series of sessions to go deeper over time. You can receive sessions on consecutive days, but no more than one full treatment per day, because it can be intense for some people. Early pilot research measured heart rate variability immediately before and after a single session and saw a clear shift out of stress and into a recovery state. In one follow-up measurement a few days later, the values were still much better than before the session. That is a single measurement, not a conclusion. A peer-reviewed study is underway, with publication planned for 2027. Vādma is not medical or mental-health treatment, so for any medical or mental-health condition, check with a qualified health professional.
